For our Mech-Vision, we necessitate STL files for generating point cloud templates from CAD. Likewise, Mech-Viz relies on STL files for creating OBJ models for grippers.

However, clients commonly provide 3D models in .step or .stp formats. Is there a straightforward method available for swift conversion to .stl format? Are there any available step-by-step instructions?

  1. With Solidworks, you can directly export the file as .stl.
  2. If you don’t have access to Solidworks, you can achieve the same process using FreeCAD.
  3. For .step files, Blender is also an option.
